International manufacturer of premium quality automotive cooling systems with extended service life

Cooling system thermostats

Cooling system thermostats

STRON is an international manufacturer of high-quality automotive parts with plants in three countries; STRON cooling thermostats are manufactured at all STRON production sites.

Production begins with the manufacture of the thermostat housing. Special materials are used to ensure the strength and durability of the product. The most important part of the STRON thermostat is the thermostatic valve, which plays an important role in regulating the temperature of the coolant in the engine, so its manufacture requires high precision and quality materials.

Every STRON thermostat manufactured is subjected to rigorous testing, including a 5-stage test for accuracy of temperature response, strength and durability to ensure its reliable performance in automotive applications.

All STRON brand automotive thermostats are manufactured to meet the high quality and safety standards of the automotive industry.

These steps come together in a process that ensures the high quality and reliability of the thermostats required for the efficient operation of the automotive engine cooling system.

Thanks to the latest manufacturing technologies, the STRON parts warranty is extended to three years. Production processes are highly automated using the latest robots - STRON cooling system thermostats are unrivalled in the "price" - "quality" - "warranty" ratio.

The main function of the thermostat is to regulate the temperature of the coolant circulating in the cooling system. The thermostat opens and closes depending on the engine temperature, helping to prevent overheating. When the engine has been running for a long time, it opens, allowing coolant to circulate through the radiator where it cools down. When the engine heats up above a certain temperature, the thermostat opens fully.

If the thermostat is stuck in the closed position, the engine can overheat in almost any driving condition, at any positive air temperature and even in light frost. If the thermostat valve is "stuck" in a fully or partially open position, the engine will take a very long time to warm up to operating temperature and may never reach operating temperature in winter.

The thermostat helps to improve the car's fuel economy - by maintaining an optimum temperature, it helps to reduce fuel consumption and improve the car's fuel economy. Some thermostats have additional features such as a feedback system from the engine temperature sensor. It is important to choose a thermostat that is compatible with your particular make and model of vehicle.

The thermostat helps the engine to warm up faster. Because it is closed when the engine is cold, the coolant heats up more quickly and the engine warms up faster. This is particularly helpful in cold weather when a quick engine warm-up is essential.

Quality thermostats tend to be long lasting and are designed to work reliably over the required temperature range. They are made from durable materials that can withstand high temperatures and a wide range of operating conditions. The life of STRON thermostats is extended by the use of durable thermoregulating fillers and rubber seals.

The most common causes of thermostat failure are changes in the physical and chemical composition or condition of the elements that change the valve position, or corrosion.

If your car takes a long time to warm up in winter and cools down quickly when driving, the thermostat is probably open. You can check this by opening the bonnet and starting the engine. If the incoming and outgoing radiator coolant pipes start to heat up when the engine warms up, this means that the thermostat is really faulty and "stuck" in the open position.

If your car does not cool down when the fan is not switched on, there may be two faults:

1. Engine fan

2. The thermostat

You can check this as follows: with the engine warmed up, when the temperature is close to the maximum allowed, open the bonnet and feel the inlet and outlet pipes of the radiator. If they are cooler than the heater pipe, this means that the thermostat is defective. In this case, replace the thermostat with a new one.

If the radiator connections are also hot, it means that the engine cooling fan, engine fan control unit, wiring or fan sensor has failed.

If the thermostat is not working, here are the basic steps to replace it with a new one:

1. Disconnect the battery before starting by disconnecting the battery cables. Make sure the engine has cooled down.

2. Locate the thermostat housing - it's usually near the upper radiator hose. Check the location of the fixing bolts.

3. Unclog the cooling system of the cooled engine - plug or drain the coolant from the radiator.

4. Disconnect the hoses and electrical connectors (if any) connecting the old thermostat to the cooling system. Loosen and remove the retaining bolts and clips.

5. Install the new thermostat in its place in the reverse order of disassembly. Tighten the mounting bolts and clamps. Connect the hoses and electrical connections.

6. After installing the thermostat, close the drain valve or remove the plug and fill the cooling system with new coolant. Make sure that the coolant level is at the upper limit.

7. Start the engine and check the operation of the new cooling thermostat. Make sure there are no leaks and that the thermostat opens and closes when the desired temperature is reached.

Done!!! Your engine now has proper coolant circulation.

STRON warns: Before replacing the thermostat, you must know the opening temperature of the valve. This can vary from car to car. Do not choose a thermostat with a high opening temperature as this will cause the engine to overheat.

The thermostat consists of a metal housing made of cast iron, plastic or aluminum. The housing has an opening through which the coolant flows. Inside the housing is a floating element made of a special wax - a mixture of metals and a spring. The floating element is surrounded by the coolant circulating in the cooling system. The liquid coolant and the floating element form a hermetically sealed unit. The thermostat body is fitted with a gasket to create a seal when installed in the cooling system.

At the top of the thermostat is a stem connected to a valve. The valve can be made of metal or plastic and opens and closes depending on the engine temperature. STRON cooling system thermostats are made of reactive plastic, special grade cast aluminum and durable stainless steel.

When the engine is cold, the thermostat closes, preventing coolant from circulating through the radiator. When the engine warms up to a certain temperature, the float begins to expand, putting pressure on the spring and opening the valve. As the valve opens, coolant begins to flow through the radiator, cooling the engine. As the engine cools to a certain temperature, the float contracts and closes the valve, diverting the coolant flow through smaller bypasses such as an internal cooling circuit or a bypass hose.

Sometimes the thermostat is mechanically controlled and responds to changes in temperature. However, there are also electronic thermostats that can be controlled by the vehicle's electronic systems. The design of the thermostat can vary slightly depending on the manufacturer and model.

Thermostats are usually set to open at a certain temperature, keeping the engine within a set temperature range. STRON cooling system thermostats are precisely matched to the temperature range set by the vehicle manufacturer.

STRON cooling system thermostats are manufactured using the latest equipment and standardized manufacturing processes according to ISO/TS 16949. All products are tested in the factory as they leave the assembly line, allowing STRON to be absolutely certain of the quality of its product.

STRON knows its product, therefore all products have an unconditional warranty of 3 years or 80 thousand kilometers. There is also a guarantee of conformity of use, dimensions and fasteners.

In the event of a complaint, STRON will take care of it - the company will provide the end customer with a replacement and reimburse the cost of re-installation.
