Installing a new air conditioning compressor in a car is a multi-step process that requires precision, specialised tools, and expertise.
- Dismantling the old compressor and preparing the system.
The first and most critical stage is the removal of the old compressor. Before disconnecting it, the refrigerant must be evacuated from the system using specialised equipment. Next, the electrical connections and high and low-pressure hoses are disconnected. After fully detaching the compressor housing, particular attention is paid to the cleanliness of the mating surfaces and flanges where the new unit will be installed. Removing any remnants of old seals and contaminants is crucial for ensuring a proper seal.
- Installation of the New Compressor and Connection
The new compressor is carefully positioned in place and secured using new sealing rings and gaskets. It's important to use the torque settings recommended by the manufacturer for the securing bolts. The pipes of the air conditioning system are then connected. When attaching the hoses, ensure they are oriented correctly to avoid kinks and internal stress. After the mechanical installation, the electrical connectors are attached.

After the compressor is installed, the air conditioning system undergoes a vacuum process. - Valve system: The inlet and outlet valves regulate the flow of refrigerant, preventing its reverse movement.
- Lubrication system: Ensures a reduction in friction and wear of moving parts.
There are various types of compressors, each with its own design features:
- Reciprocating: The most common type, resembling an internal combustion engine. Pistons move within cylinders, compressing the refrigerant.
- Rotary: They have an eccentric rotor that rotates inside a cylinder.
- Spirals: Consist of two spirals, one of which rotates, moving and compressing the refrigerant.
- Plate-type: They use plates that create chambers for compressing the refrigerant during the rotation of the eccentric.
